Guardsman Dies Of Wounds

Guardsman William Ellis Lake, of 143. Adwick Road, Mexborough, died as a result of woun

ds received while on active service in France. at an English military hospital on Tuesday. Guardsman Lake was a reservist and was called up on the outbreak of war, and was sent to France three months ago. Mrs. Lake received letters from her husband quite frequently, but a fortnight ago she received intimation that he had been wounded.

On Sunday Guardsman Lake vas brought to an English hospital, and Monday night Mrs. Lake was summoned to the hospital Her husband died on the following afternoon.

Guardsman Lake way an old boy of Mexborough Secondary School, and was a choir boy and soloist at Mexborough Parish Church in his youth He took a first prize at one of the Mexborough Musical Festivals.

He leaves a widow and two children. The interment will take place at Mexborough to-day (Friday).
