Killed In Italy

Mr. and Mrs. W. Briggs, of 18, Crossgate, Mexborough, have been officially informed that their youngest son, Signaller Stanley Briggs (24), has been killed in action in Italy.

Sig. Briggs was called up with the Militia four years ago, and had seen service in France in 1840.

In May this year he was drafted to North Africa, and later took part in the Italian campaign.

He was previously employed at Dale Brown’s

Lt. L. W. Watts has written to his parents:

“I offer you heartfelt sympathy and condolence for the loss of your son. I have been now for some time in command of his section, and always found him to be cheerful, willing to do anything asked of him, and a good soldier. I can also assure you that he got on very well with all members of his section. His funeral took place this morning (Oct. 9th).”
