Wounded In France
Gnr. Richard Coupland (21), R.A., a Mexborough Commando soldier who took part in the first landings in France, was wounded in the right arm and left hand on Aug. 10th, after being in the front line since D-Day. He is now in a Canadian hospital in Surrey.
Gnr. Coupland is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Coupland, of Cobden Avenue, and has been in the Forces for four years, before which he was employed at Hirstgate Co-operative Stores.
In a letter to his parents, he tells of a surprise meeting with another Mexborough boy, Leonard Jenkins, who drove him to an airport in France when he was on his way home.
