Military Medallist

Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Stacey, of 8, Don View, Mexborough, have received news from their youngest son, Pte. Eric Stacey (25), who is serving with the K.O.Y.L.I. (King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry) in Italy, that he has been awarded the military medal.

Pte. Stacey joined the Army in 1939 and has been overseas for 2 ½ years.  He has been in Iraq, India, North Africa, and Italy and receives the “Times” every week.

He says in letters home that he looks forward to it and sends it around among his pals, one of whom, Herbert Sagar of Barnsley has been with him since they joined.

He has two brothers serving in the forces, both of them joined up in 1938.

Gnr. Ernest Stacey (31) is now serving with the Royal Artillery “somewhere in England” and has never been overseas. Before the war he was with the Territorials.

Cpl. Frank Stacey R.A.F. has been abroad for 3 ½ years and has been in Iraq most of that time, but although he was only 40 miles from where his brother Eric is stationed the couple did not manage to me.  He was in the butchery trade before the war.
