Period Costumes
More than 40 Elizabethan period costumes are being made by Mrs. Rhoda Brearley, wife of Harold Brearley, Mexborough Theatre Guild Secretary, for the Theatre Guild’s production of Beaumont and Fletcher’s 17th century comedy, “The Knight of the Burning Pestle”, on the five nights beginning Tuesday, January 29th.
The large number of costumes needed is partly due to the fact that members of the Elizabethan audience will, as was the custom of the periods be seated in boxes at each side of the stage and on stools on the stage itself.
The industry of Mrs. Brearley and her colleagues will save the society £100 on the hire of Costumes.
