No Hope
Mexborough man’s Fate
Private WH Briggs, Mexborough
(6th York and Lancs)
Mrs Briggs of 10, Foundry Lane, Mexborough, has been making enquiries respecting her husband, Private WH Briggs who was wounded in August 21, 1915, and has not been heard of since. He went to the Dardanelles on 30 June.
Company Sergeant Major J. Taylor writes Mrs Briggs as follows:
“After the advance of August 21 last, he, among a great number of his colleagues, was found to be missing, and from that day nothing has been seen or heard of them.
It is believed they died fighting that day.
We are very sorry to have to tell you such bad news, but you can rest assured that all our sympathy goes out to you your howl of sorrow. Should we receive any confirmation concerning him we will let you know immediately.”
