Eventful Trip
The annual trip of employees of Mexborough U.D.C.to Scarborough on Friday proved more exciting than anticipated. At the North Shore, Mr William J Wilcox, the gardener of Clayton Park, of Clayton Park Bungalow, Church Street, Mexborough was taking a dip.
“I was only in the baths about 25 minutes,” said Mr Wilcock, who is married and has one son. I saw a boy, aged about 15, go under twice. He mumbled but didn’t seem to call for help. I could just see the top of his head. I swam over and grabbed one arm and another man grabbed the other. We dragged him to the shallow end, when he recovered.
