Wife of Mexborough Doctor

Widespread sympathy will be felt for Dr. Thomas Lindsay, of Ash Mount, Doncaster Road, Mexborough, in the death of his wife, Mrs. Geraldyne Agnes Lindsay, at her home last Thursday evening.

Mrs. Lindsay came of Ayrshire family. She was fourth daughter of the late Mr and Mrs. Christopher Murray, and for many years before her marriage to Dr. Lindsay, 16 years ago, she lived with her parents at Ringwood, Hampshire.

Mrs. Lindsay allied herself closely with her husband’s professional duties and with his manifold outside interests. She took a keen interest in the Denaby and District Choral Society of which Dr. Lindsay is president, and during the war was a prime mover in the popular “snowball” teas run in conjunction with Mexborough Montagu Hospital Comforts Fund.

A member of the Roman Catholic Church at Mexborough, Mrs. Lindsay was at one time president of the Union of Catholic Mothers. Dr. and Mrs. Lindsay have no family.

Interment at Denaby Cemetery on Monday was preceded by a service in Mexborough Roman Catholic Church, conducted by Father Heenan. Family mourners were Dr. T. Lindsay (widower), Mr. T. Lindsay (father-in-law), Miss E. Murray (sister), of Lincoln, and Miss K. Murray (sister), of Reading

Other mourners were Mr. and Mrs. Moxon, Dr. G. B. Petrie and Mrs. Petrie, Mr. A. Pugh, Mr. Clarke Mr. and Mrs. R. Dayson and  Rosemary, Mrs. Lynette Chappell, Mr. and Mrs. Lowe, Mr. D. Needham, Mrs Graveson and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold

There were many floral tributes, including those from Dr. Lindsay, relatives and friends.

An inquest on Mrs. Lindsay was opened by the Doncaster District Coroner (Mr. W. H. Carlile) at Mex-borough on Friday.

Evidence of identification was given by Dr. Lindsay, who said he was called home from his surgery at 6.30 p.m. on Thursday and found his wife lying dead in bed. The Coroner adjourned the inquest pending a post-mortem examination.
