Hat-Trick for Mexborough Bowler

Mexborough pulled off a fine ten wickets win in their away game with Rockingham on Saturday. They sent the home team in and got rid of them for 108. A. Vickers taking 7 wickets for 35 runs, and finishing off the innings with a hat-trick. Hargreaves had the other three wickets for 68 runs. Sam White did good work behind the stumps and had a hand in dismissing four batsmen.

Afterwards with Arthur Vollans he helped to knock off the runs without loss. Vollans, who gave only one hard chance, scored 68 not out, and White 35 not out.

Easy For Swinton

Thorncliffe fielded a weak side (and were also a man short) for their away match at Swinton on Saturday and lost by nine wickets. The bowling of F. Ellis and I. Ellison proved their undoing.

Sent in first they could only scrape together 33 runs runs of which H. Whitham by means of two fours and a two, scored 10 before Ellis dismissed him and put an end to all Thornclilte resistance.

Ellis started well taking the wicket of C. Davis, the visitors’ opening bat with the first ball of the match. and his “bag”of five cost 20 runs. Ellison bowled very effectively at the other end to take three for seven. Swinton’s fielders acquitted themselves well and took five Thorncliffe wickets for catches.

L Bedford and C. Lee opened for Swinton, but were separated when Lee (7) was dismissed at 10 by F. Hollingsworth who bowled consistently for the visitors. Green joined Bedford and together they hit off the runs. In his 19 not out Bedford had two sixes. Green’s unbeaten 12 contained two fours.

Wath and Brampton Draw

Wath Athletic (190) drew with Brampton (120 for 4 wickets), at Wath.

For Wath, C. Heaton 21, C. Sage 22. J. C. Heaton 24, D. Brooks 23. W. Moore 38 not out and H. Clarke 18, were principal scorers, while M. Crook 27. W. Swift 24, J. Crowcroft 24 not out and J. Wardle 26 not out, did well for Brampton.

  1. Denton (4 for 38), J. Wardle (3 for 53) and W. Swift (2 for 38) were the most successful bowlers for Brampton. C. Sage (Wath) took 2 for 20.

All Square at Hickleton

Denaby drew at Thurnscoe with Hickleton Main, who declared at 197 for 8 (W Hinchliffe 34, G Gibbs 34, Riley 33). The first three wickets fell for 19, but good batting by K. Rossington (57) and R. Covey (31 not out) enabled them to play out time, their total being 135 for 7.
