A novel match, of 14 each side, was played on the Mexborough ground on Wednesday, the presence of a large crowd of spectators.

Each player was adorned with a tall hat, and the various penalties incurred when the app fell off was creative of much amusement.

During the progress of the match the horrible H.W.Fitzwilliam and Lady Fitzwilliam visited the ground to witness the novel encounter, and appeared to highly enjoy the proceedings.
