Harlington Brothers Bound Over
Two brothers, Malin Monaghan and Vincent Monaghan (18), miners, both of Freelands, Mill Lane, Harlington, were charged at Rotherham West Riding Court on Monday with having stolen four bicycles, between June 30th and July 6th, from the pit baths at Manvers Main Colliery.
Both defendants pleaded guilty and asked for seven similar offences to be taken into consideration. They were each bound over in £3 for two years, and ordered to pay £ 3 9s. court fees each.
When interviewed by the police Malin Monaghan said “I took them: I am very sorry I was so foolish.” Vincent Monaghan said “I don’t know what to say.”
The total value of the bicycles stolen was £51 15s. The defendants, in court, expressed a desire to pay the money back. The cycles were sold by them to a dealer at Wombwell.
Mr. W. Dyson, presiding magistrate, congratulated P.c. Oldfield and P.c. Pearson for the competent way in which they had handled the matter.
