Bungay gets four for Mexborough
Not since they won the Midland League Championship in 1927 have Mexborough Athletic shown such dazzling form as they did yesterday on their own ground, where they defeated Loughborough by five goals to one.
The Loughborough goal was bombarded in the second half, and Joe Bromage, the old Denaby goalkeeper, stood up to it splendidly. Bungay, the Mexborough centre-forward, by scoring four of the five goals for the winners, carried his record for Mexborough’s last ten matches ( a Cup-tie included) to 20 goals; made up of two singles, five braces, and two fours, with only one blank. Wassail got Mexbrough’s last goal, and Sullivan, who scored five against Wombwell on Saturday, netted Loughborough s onlv one. Loughborough played clever football, but were beaten by a good, all-round side irresistible form.
