Mexborough Man Fined for Theft

Stated at Rotherham West Riding Court on Monday to have been involved with another man who had previously been dealt with, in three cases of theft at Mexborough, Frederick R. Jackson (30), miner, of 70, Wath Road, Mexborough, was fined a total of £7 and ordered to pay £10 restitution.

He pleaded guilty to stealing ten pullets, valued at £15, the property of Wilfred Smith, to stealing eight hens, valued at £8, the property of the same person, and to stealing a bag of cement, valued at 6s. id., the property of Ernest Waddington, between June 9th and 10th, He asked for two other offences to be taken into consideration.

Chief Supt. J.L. Dunn said P.c. Harper stopped accused, who was with another man, in White Lee Road, Swinton, on the night of June 9th-10th. Both ran away, Jackson in the direction of the railway embankment. When the constable arrived at the embankment he found Jackson lying on the ground with his head near the railway lines. He was injured about the face and removed to hospital.

He later made a statement in which he admitted his part in the offences.

He was fined £3 on the first offence and £2 on each of the two other.
