L.A.C. W. R. Arnold (Mexborough) and Miss V. A. Wallis (Mexborough)

A gown of stiff white lace cut on Tudor lines and an embroidered veil of fine Brussels net surmounted by a wreath of orange blossom and white feathers was worn by Miss Violet Annie Wallis, younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Wallis, of 25, Hampden Road. Mexborough, who was married to L.A.C. William Roxby Arnold, only son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Arnold, of 16, Princess Road. Mexborough, at Mexborough Parish Church on Monday.

The Vicar of Mexborough, the Rev. E. H. P. Rawlins, officiated, and Mr. L. Fletcher played appropriate organ music.

The bride, who was given away by her father, carried a bouquet of pink roses and fern. Her attendants Miss Rose Wallis (sister), and Miss Mrs. Arnold an ensemble of mauve jaska with accessories to match and an ermine stole.

Mr. W. Arnold, the bridegroom’s father, manager of the Adwick Road branch of the Barnsley British Co-operative Society, was unable to be present owing to illness. On leaving church the bridal party visited him in the Montagu Hospital where the bride left her bouquet.

The best man was Mr. Tom Mackinder, an R.A.F. colleague of the bridegroom, and the bride’s brother, Mr. Albert Wallis, was groomsman.

After a reception held in the St. Aidan’s Hall, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold left for a honeymoon on the west coast, the bride travelling in a grey coat trimmed with Persian lamb with navy blue accessories. Both bride and bridegroom are members of Mexborough Athletic Tennis Club.

Before Joining the R.A.F. 14 months ago the bridegroom was an assistant in the Adwick Road Co-operative Store. The bride was manageress of the Boot Department in the Society’s Swinton branch. Among the wedding gifts was an oak clock from Co-operative Society colleagues.
