Golden Wedding – Mr & Mrs Havenhand

Former Mexborough residents, Mr. and Mrs. S. Havenhand, 59, Woodstock Gardens, Blackpool, recently celebrated their Golden Wedding. Mr. and Mrs. Havenhand were married at St. Peter’s Church, Mansfield, in 1899.

While in Mexborough, Mr. and Mrs. Havenhand lived in Hall Gate. Mr. Havenhand was a grocery stores manager and was a founder of the local branch of the shop assistants’ union, and was first secretary of the branch.

Later Mr. Havenhand took up an appointment as grocery manager in Sheffield. In 1913 he won the first prize in the London grocery exhibition which was open to all England. In a competition for Sheffield grocers in 1924 he won first prize for a margarine display.

He retired 16 years ago.
