Century For Auty
Mexborough Set the Wheels Rolling
Wath 154 Mexborough 229 for 3 (dec)
Mexborough gained a good win at Wath on Tuesday, when former Wath players showed their appreciation of the Wath wicket to a rare tune.
Mexborough lost the wickets of Burkinshaw and Denham for 36, but Hargreaves and Auty (picture) settled down and made a big stand of 134. Both players were a little more restrained than usual, yet they kept the score board moving freely. Only occasionally did either essay any big hit, but well placed singles and excellent running caused the score to mount quickly. Frequent bowling changes failed to trouble the batsmen, and a double century partnership appeared likely when Hargreaves was run out. He had contributed 60 of the 134 In 80 minutes.
Shortly before Auty had given a sharp chance behind the wicket, but he continued merrily and completed his century, scoring 44 of the unbroken fourth wicket, which realised 59. He had 14 fours and one six in his 106 not out. The 229 runs were scored in two hours and ten minutes. Burke had 2 for 49.
Heaton (48) had useful assistance from Davis (13) and Wood (20), but six Wath wickets were down for 93. The tail made a fight and chiefly through Roberts and Burke, who both scored 21. The game was kept fairly interesting and the total reached 154. Hargreaves had 3 for 26 and Bayes 3 for 38.
