Peace Celebrations at Roman Terrace.

Roman Terrace is not one whit behind the other districts in the comprehensiveness of its celebrations, and entered heartily into the spirit of the occasion. On Saturday about 1,100 children carrying banners and flags, marched in procession, headed by the Salvation Army band, through the street of the town.

They presented a gorgeous appearance – a merry, laughing, flag bedecked column of holiday-robed children. The parade, which was declared on all sides to be the prettiest and largest ever held in the district, was marshalled by Mr. W. Goddard., president of the Peace Celebrations Committee, and included many speciality costumes, for which prizes were offered. Mr. J. Roberts acted as adjudicator, and awards were made as follows:

Ist Prize for Girls: Miss Norah Siddall, representing the Dove of Peace; 2ind Miss Winnie Crocker in the costume of a Gipsy Girl.

1st prize for boys: Master F. Yates with a decorated motor car; 2nd Master H Goddard, impersonating Charlie Chaplin.

Hymns And National songs were rendered in Manvers Park, Mr. P. Goddard conducting. A short service was presided over by Mr, W. Goddard, at -which prayer was offered by Mr. G. Adey, and an address was given by Mr. W. Roberts. Tea arranged and presided over by the ladies, was held in the Park and the children ate as heartily as they had sung. For the subsequent racing, and other forms of sport, £14 and been expended in prizes, and they were keenly competed for.
