Review of Year of Records
Income Up By Nearly £2,000
Deficit Cut to £450
Mr. G. Dickinson Elected President
“Now the Hospital has entered upon its fiftieth year of work, full of hope, courage, and energy another period of peaceful development and progress. Truly it can be said of that band of pioneers who created the Cottage Hospital in Bank Street that they builded better than they knew, for even the visionaries among them could scarcely have conceived its development into the excellent consultative centre it is now.”
With these words Mr. J. N. Drake, Secretary-Superintendent of the Mexborough Montagu Hospital, at the annual meeting of subscribers in the Board Room on Monday, concluded his review of a year during which many records were broken. It was pointed out that twelve months ago the Hospital entered on “a new era,” but there had been increases in the work done by all departments: in operative work there had been a 50 per increase.
Some time ago the Board acceded to a request from Captain J. O. Montagu to be relieved of the Presidency, and since that time the office had been unfilled. On Monday Lord Halifax and Mr. George Dickinson were nominated, and the latter was elected by a show of hands. Captain and Mrs. Montagu are now the joint patrons of the Hospital.
It was stated that during the year a budget revealed an estimated deficit of £3,000, but thanks to the steps taken by the Finance Committee and a record grant from the Ladies’ Committee of £1,200, total income was increased by £1,883, and the excess of expenditure over income for the year was only £452 7s.
