Mexborough Scholar’s Distinction.

Mr. H. N. Fieldhouse, a former Mexboro’ boy who received !his education at the Mexboro’ Secondary School, has been appointed Professor of History at the Winnipeg University at the age of 28.

He came with his parents to Mexboro’ when a boy and attended the Adwick Road Council School. Obtaining the County Major Certificate when quite young he attended the Mexborougth Secondary School, under the present head, Mr. T. W. Ireland.

From there he went with a scholarship to Sheffield University, and in his four years there took his Arts degree with honours.

Towards the end of the war he became of age and joined the Air Force, serving for a year as a cadet. On being demobilised he gained an Oxford scholarship, and at the age of 20 went to the University. He took the Oxford BA. and the Stanhope history prize. He was then appointed a history lecturer at Sheffield University.

He is to take up this duties early in September. He will be 28 in September. He sails to-morrow.
